Geothermal Energy
Yesterday, the older children in the Eco Council visited the Geothermal Roadshow at Mount St Michaels. The roadshow was presented by the Geoenergy Ni Discovery Centre. We were involved in 3 different activities which showcased the huge potential Northern Ireland has for Geothermal energy. We found out that the new houses at the top of Main Street are heated by Geothermal energy, they can use any type of rock but sandstone is the best type of rock to use for Geothermal energy, we found out about the engineering processes involved and we also put on VR sets where we were transported 250metres underground – absolutely fascinating!!
Everyone really enjoyed themselves and we would like to thank Mount St Michaels for inviting us to attend.
The Geoenergy NI Discovery Centre will be taking this roadshow to the Portrush Airshow in September for anyone who is interested.
