Randalstown Central Primary School

Sport For Schools - Friday 18th May 2018

24th Apr 2018

Before Mrs Smith went off on Maternity Leave, she proposed a sporting event for the school, run through ‘Sports For Schools’.

The whole idea of the event is to inspire the next generation of local sporting talent…whilst also raising funds for the school and a little towards a Northern Irish athlete’s training costs.

The event has two main aspects to it…Firstly, it is an opportunity to engage pupils. Having them meet a professional athlete and spend much of the day with them, taking part in a fitness circuit with them.

Secondly, it is an opportunity to raise money for the school in a sponsored event.

The athlete that we will have coming into the Central is Christine McMahon, a past pupil of Belfast Royal Academy and 400 metre hurdler who has represented Northern Ireland at both the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games and is aiming for a place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

This is a unique opportunity for the ‘Central’ to welcome a professional athlete to the school and hopefully inspire our pupils to be part of the next generation of sporting talent from our country to perform on a world stage !

The children will be introduced to the event on Monday 30th April with a whole-school assembly.

Christine will be at the school on Friday 18th May 2018, when she will run a fitness circuit for each class. The pupils will then have a chance to listen to Christine talk to the whole school and ask her questions
